Become confident in the kitchen on this one day class designed to teach beginners the essential cookery skills & techniques to enable them to cook for themselves, family and friends. This cooking day will suit enthusiastic beginners and those wishing to develop some good basic skills: it is also ideal for young people going off to university or moving away from home and setting up for themselves. We hope to inspire you with a life-long love for producing your own delicious home-cooked food.

On this  Novice Cooks' / Beginners' class the most important factor is to develop confidence in the kitchen!

  • Learn to create exciting, tasty & inexpensive dishes, using local, seasonal produce as well as ingredients from the store cupboard.
  • Learn basic knife skills and cooking methods so that these can be applied to a growing repertoire of dishes.
  • Cook your own lunch and discuss handy tips and ideas.

Each dish has been chosen to teach the widest range of key skills as highlighted in some of our dishes below:

Asparagus & Gruyere Flan Skills: making pastry from scratch; baking blind & how to 'prepare ahead'

Chicken fillet with a White Wine & Tarragon Sauce Skills: coating meat, pan-frying, classic roux / cream sauce. Or

One - Pot Pork & Apple Cider Bake Skills: meat cuts; browning / sealing meat; flavourings & spices to create an array of dishes and thereby extend your repertoire.

Mixed Grain Salad & Tabouleh Skills: Knife skills preparing vegetables; cooking grains such as bulghar wheat and couscous; how to create colourful taboulehs using herbs; prepare & flavour dressings and vinaigrettes.

'Something Sweet' from: Lemon Posset; Mint Chocolate Mousse; Fruity Cinnamon Crumble; Baked Rice Pudding or some ‘gooey Brownies'.

Please note that children aged 10 to 16 are welcome to attend and participate in any of our classes at the full cost of a place, but they MUST be accompanied by one paying adult.

We invite you to join us at 9.30am for coffee when you will meet other class members and your chef. We will talk you through the class menu and how the day will run before you move through to our purpose designed kitchen, surrounded by the beautiful Oast gardens. With small classes of around 8 people, the step-by-step tuition is fun and easy to follow as you are supported by the Cookery Studio team. At the end of cooking you will be able to dine and enjoy the dishes you have prepared. You will receive a recipe booklet to take away with you. Please note that the dishes listed may vary due to the availability of fresh produce as a result of seasonal changes.
